Il re leone, prodotto da Walt Disney Pictures nel 1994, è il 32º classico Disney.

Uscito al cinema nel 1994, il film si aggiudicò 2 premi Oscar, per la miglior colonna sonora di Hans Zimmer e per la miglior canzone (scritta da Elton John e Tim Rice). Il successo del film ha portato alla creazione di due sequel. Il re leone è considerato tra i più grandi film d'animazione della Walt Disney e quello di maggior successo al box office mondiale nel decennio d'oro (1989-1999). Nel 2003 è uscita l'edizione speciale de Il Re Leone mentre nel 2011/2012 uscira l'edizione diamond de Il Re Leone.
